  Served in WW2 aboard HMAS Perth. After it was sunk, he was sent to Japan as a POW. After the war, some US soldiers came across him in Tokyo and he identified himself as being from the Perth which went down fighting with the USS Houston. The US forces got him back to Melbourne before his mother knew he was coming home.
